Live or Die – its up to you !

For all of you business owners like myself out there, some of  the choices we have to make to survive in today’s marketplace are actually simple. The one choice that you and me cannot afford to make is to do nothing because it costs money. Hunkering down and hoping for this recession to pass and waiting for the good old days to come back is the same as hoping to win the CA State Lottery. The chances of which happening given my luck is next to nothing. Doing nothing is tantamount to dying when it comes to your business.  So the MILLION DOLLAR question is what to do and the answer is real simple:

GET MORE CUSTOMERS !!!

Now you are going to say to me “I already knew that, tell me something I dont know”. My response to that would be as follows i.e.,  As obvious as the answer is to all the challenges you are facing today in keeping your business going, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY TO ACQUIRE NEW CUSTOMERS ??
My guess is a majority of you folks struggling out there today will not be able to give me a satisfactory answer. The reason for that being most of us did not anticipate this drastic change in the economic climate in the past 1-2 years and were not ready with a clear startegy to respond.  If your only response is that ‘I dropped my already low prices even more so to keep my exsiting customers from price shopping or looking for alternatives’, then my friend that startegy by itself is bound to fail.

Well it’s never too  late to get things rolling again  so here are a few tips to get things moving in the right direction.

1. GET YOUR BUTT OUT OF YOUR OFFICE CHAIR & GO SELL SOMETHING.
2. BLAMING EVERYTHING ON THE ECONOMY WILL NOT GET YOU ANYWHERE. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET CREATIVE ABOUT YOUR MARKETING EFFORTS.
3. GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE AWESOME CAPABILITIES THAT YOU HAVE AND THE GREAT THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS. ITS MORE IMPORTANT TO DO THIS NOW MORE THAN EVER.

More TIPS to follow. Watch out for my next blog in this series.

Experimental Xerox Paper Erases Itself.. What are they going to come up with next ??

Xerox Corporation scientists have invented a way to make prints whose images last only a day, so that the paper can be used again and again. The technology, which is still in a preliminary state, blurs the line between paper documents and digital displays and could ultimately lead to a significant reduction in paper use.The experimental printing technology, a collaboration between the Xerox Research Centre of Canada and PARC (Palo Alto Research Center Inc.), could someday replace printed pages that are used for just a brief time before being discarded. Xerox estimates that as many as two out of every five pages printed in the office are for what it calls “daily” use, like e-mails, Web pages and reference materials that have been printed for a single viewing.

As the owner of a successfull printing company, at first glance this would appear to be scary stuff. Makes all of us in the printing business wonder about – WHAT THE HELL ELSE ARE THESE PEOPLE GOING TO COME UP WITH TO RUN PRINTERS OUT OF BUSINESS ???

But then again a recent analogy would go something like ‘The Internet is going to drive all Brick & Mortar Stores out of Business’. Has not happened yet and probably never will. By the same token this kind of fancy technology should not have us printers think about doing crazy stuff like stop marketing our printed products and services

BTW I can think of one great application for this new paper from Xerox, if you are not sure your print customer gave you good check then print his stuff on the erasable paper and when the printing disappears a day later the joke is on him…. TO BE CONTINUED

Full Color Printing: Create a big impact

When you are thinking of designing a brochure, flyer or newsletter for your business or educational project, think about getting it done using full color. Black and white or single-color media are things of the past. Nowadays, most people do not even bother to go through those. If you wish to attract attention of people with your promotional or educational media, you simply have to get those made using bright colors.

Printing in full color may seem to be a tad more expensive than monochrome printing techniques, but it pays off in the long run. There are a lot of printing services that can take care of your printing job. After you have designed your template, all that remains is to find the right service to get your job done. There are some points that you should inquire about when you are enlisting a service for getting your color printing done. These include the following:

1.Past success stories: Make sure that the service provider has a good success record in the past. Ask for client testimonials. If a provider has a lot of testimonials from satisfied clients, then it is a safe bet to assume that they do provide quality service. Also, ask them to print a few sample copies for you before placing the order. That way you can be sure of the quality of the work that you will get.

2. Meeting deadlines: Ask them whether they will be able to meet the deadline that you set for them. Testimonials from past clients will also help you to form an impression about the service providers ability to meet deadlines. It is no use getting a perfect job if you get it too late.

3. The price for the job: Ask the service provider how much they will charge for the service. This usually varies according to the volume of work that you need to be done. If you place larger orders, you get the most cost-effective service. You should ask around to find a few service providers to compare their charges. But, there is no price too great for getting a job done perfectly. If you find a provider whose service is simply too good, get your work done there, even if it means paying a little extra.

Color printing continues to rule the world of promotional campaigns and advertisements. Make sure you get your promotional media printed in bright colors to ensure that your presentation is always ready to make the maximum impact.

Printing services can help you to create your promotional flyers, mailing envelopes, brochures and newsletters in a professional manner. They can also advise you on how to make your printed promotional media look even more attractive. Before you choose a professional printing service, however, you should have the design of the media ready. Some printing services provide the option of designing the media for you, but they usually charge prices high enough to burn a hole in your wallet. Once you have prepared the design of the media, and are ready to send it out for printing, do a little research about the printing service. Make sure that you gather information on the following points:

  1. Success rate Ask for testimonials from past clients. In these days, most printing services maintain their own sites on the internet. If that is the case, go through the site. If you find that you know any of their past clients, call them up and verify how satisfactory the performances of the printing services were. Find out how good the quality of the finished goods was.
  2. Ability to meet deadlines Ask the past clients whether the printing service was able to provide the finished products on time. It is no use getting a superior quality product if you get it well after the D-day. Also inquire whether they can deliver ahead of time for some extra fee, in case there is an emergency.
  3. Cost of service This is where it gets a bit tricky. In most cases, the price will depend on the quantity of media that you require, and your deadline. If you order a larger quantity, the value for money is usually more. However, make sure that the quality of the finished product is commensurate with the price you are paying.
Once you are satisfied with the information you find, send the media out for printing. Very soon you will have a set of great looking promotional media in your hands that should provide a boost to your business.

Envelope Printing: Impressing new clients

Envelope printing can play a significant role in the promotional campaign of a company. Many companies try to reach prospective consumers or clients through inexpensive postal mail. However, in this kind of advertising, the envelopes that carry the promotional leaflets and letters play a significant role in attracting the client’s attention. Thus the envelopes need to look attractive. Envelope printing comes in handy here. By having envelopes custom printed by printing service providers, companies can have those customized as per requirement, with motifs, names printed in designer fonts, and a whole lot more. The list of customizations is seemingly endless.

If you use envelope printing as a promotional tool for your business, there are some things that you should always keep in mind. These include:

  1. Envelopes need not always be printed in a plethora of colors. Most people don’t realize that drenching envelopes in color does not always guarantee the customer’s undivided attention towards those. Stylish fonts and interesting motifs can make even envelopes printed in black and white stand out in a crowd of envelopes. Mail based marketing benefits most from envelopes printed in designer fonts with elegant motifs and pictures on top. Make sure that the name of your organization is clearly readable.
  2. Choose envelopes made of strong paper. Envelopes that get tattered or torn easily are not a good idea. After all, the envelopes are the client’s window into your company. Making the client form a good impression about the company is the reason those envelopes were sent in the first place.
  3. Envelopes are of various types and it is important to choose the right kind of envelope for the right task. Business envelopes are good for promoting new business ventures or special offers that a company might be running during the time. Window envelopes are good for social announcements, or for promoting not-for-profit projects. Specialty envelopes are good for sending product samples, and promoting individual products in a focused manner. Specialty envelopes can also be used to request a customer’s feedback on a certain product or service. These can also be used to send short surveys to learn the customer’s feedback on a certain product or service. Use the correct type of envelopes for your mail based campaign. It will be more effective.

These points should help you choose the right kind of envelopes for a successful mail based marketing campaign. Choose the right type of envelope, have it printed well, and continue towards gaining a larger client base than ever before.

Business Card Printing: Making a great first impression

Whenever you encounter a prospective client and hand him your business card, a lot of things happen simultaneously. You introduce your business to the client, and at the same time, the client uses your card to decide whether or not to have further communication with you. As such, the seemingly innocuous business card suddenly becomes an all powerful promotional tool for you. In order to use this tool properly, you need to have it designed well. Your business card should look attractive enough to portray an image of your business in a positive manner.

You should get your business card printed through a professional printing service to ensure that the card looks professional in appearance. Many professional printing services treat business cards with special attention. Before you send your card for printing, however, you will have to design it. There are some enhancements that you should apply to your business cards in order to make those attract the client’s attention. These include:
  1. Use colors If you can afford it, go for business cards printed in full color. Colors make a far greater impact and portray a good image of your organization. Choose the color depending on the services that you provide. For instance, if you sell gym equipments, make sure your card conveys an image of power with reds, oranges and greens. On the other hand, if you own a medical facility, go for serene colors like light blue, beige, and grey. Your letters should also be in colors.
  2. Add a photo Add a small photo of yours to the card if you can. Nothing fancy is necessary; simply a face shot will work fine. A photo added to a business card has been known to increase the effectiveness of the card multifold.
  3. Choose bold fonts It’s about time someone got rid of those same old Arial and Times New Roman. Bring on the Verdana, Impact, Copperplate Gothic, and others. The receiver will be impressed and you will also feel satisfied when handing over a unique looking business card.

These tips should help you design a good business card . Once you have created it, choose the printing service that is just right for you. Make sure that they can deliver the best quality of cards for you, are consistent about meeting deadlines, and can help you improve your design if necessary. Lastly, ask them about the cost of the service. If that fits your budget, then the only thing that will remain to be done will be to place the order.
