Support Your Football Team, Use Signs & Banners to Promote!!

Football Team in a Huddle

It’s high school football season yet again, and if your team is anything like mine . . . they’re gonna need all the support they can get.

No,  I’m not talking about hugs and pats on the back or “better luck next time” and cheering at game time because, when you’ve got all the fans in the stands yelling and screaming, the words just sort of blend together and the players will never know who cheered them on or what anyone said (unless a megaphone was involved, but I seriously doubt that). So how in the world are you supposed to let your boys know you’re there for them?

Signs and banners.

Yep, that’s the secret. No, seriously, it’s as simple as that. When I was in high school the posters for the football team’s upcoming games were all around the school – you could not escape them, they were around every corner. We even had a eight foot wide banner that hung above the snack bar at the field; all the fans had signed their names on it, and every game before the kick-off the coach would bring his team together and point to the banner. Of course, I have no idea what he said to go with the pointing, but it always got the boys riled up, so who cares?

I spoke to my friend who was on the high school football team for four years and he told me that he loved it when his family and friends held up signs from the bleachers with his jersey number and encouraging words. He never told his parents this, but he always played better when they were their holding up a sign for him.

However, the signs aren’t just for the supporters to use. It’s for the players too. I mean, who wouldn’t love having their own stuff to show off to the world? Can you think of something the players use to advertise their team? Go over to the nearest high school. Right now. I dare you.  And I guarantee that you will find that the majority of the student’s have car magnets supporting the school’s teams.

So before you head over to the next football game, show the players and the marchers that you’re there for them and bring a sign, put up a sign in your yard, use a car magnet, or create a banner for the school hallway; it’ll mean a lot to them. Promise. Go team!
